Ceramic vs. Dyed Tint: What's the Real Difference?
Dyed window tint has been around for decades, and it's still the cheapest option on the market - which is exactly why it's worth understanding what you're giving up.
Heat rejection
Dyed film blocks visible light but does relatively little against infrared heat. Ceramic film uses nano-ceramic particles that reject a significant share of IR heat, which is the heat you actually feel.
Durability
Dyed film tends to fade and can turn purple over years of sun exposure. Ceramic film's non-metallic formula holds its color and clarity far longer.
Signal interference
Metallic films - an older alternative to dyed - can interfere with GPS, radio, and cell signal. Ceramic film is metal-free, so it doesn't cause that problem.
If you're comparing quotes, ask what type of film is actually being installed. It's the single biggest factor in how the tint performs over time.
